KEYENCE CL-3050 System Guide: CL-L030G, CL-L030N and CL-C10 Components

The KEYENCE CL-3000 Series is a multi-colour confocal displacement measurement platform used for non-contact measurement of height, position, distance and, in suitable multi-head arrangements, thickness or width. A working CL-3000 installation is assembled from distinct components, so matching the controller, optical unit, sensor head and cable is more important than identifying only one model number.

This guide covers four related parts currently available from Panda Industrial Supply:

CL-3050 — Controller
Export-control version of the CL-3000 controller.

CL-L030G — Optical unit
30 mm Quad-type optical unit supplied with its matched CL-L030 sensor head. KEYENCE identifies this model as an export-control product. It has a higher published resolution than the CL-L030N.

CL-L030N — Optical unit
30 mm Quad-type optical unit supplied with its matched CL-L030 sensor head. KEYENCE identifies this as the non-export-control model designation.

CL-C10 — Sensor-head extension cable
10 m (32.8 ft) extension cable for the sensor head.

These components are being offered together as a related equipment group. That description should not be taken to mean that every G- and N-version component can be mixed freely in one installation. Confirm the exact controller, optical-unit/head pairing, software, wiring and export requirements before commissioning or moving the equipment across a border.

What the CL-3050 controller does

The KEYENCE CL-3050 is the controller for the export-control version of the CL-3000 Series. According to KEYENCE’s published specifications, the controller supports two optical-unit connections by itself and up to six when the appropriate expansion or relay units are used.

The controller provides several routes for integration with a machine or data system:

- EtherNet/IP communication;
- PROFINET communication;
- PLC-Link support for specified Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC families;
- 100Base-TX Ethernet;
- USB 2.0 HighSpeed;
- RS-232C communication;
- configurable discrete input and output terminals.

KEYENCE lists a 24 VDC ±10% supply requirement, an operating temperature of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) and an approximate controller weight of 600 g. The monitor and setup software associated with the CL-3050 is CL-NavigatorG.

Not all communication modes can be used at the same time. The published controller specification includes restrictions between EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PLC-Link and EtherCAT operation. Check the current KEYENCE manual before selecting the machine interface or reusing an existing configuration.

CL-L030G and CL-L030N: similar names, important differences

Both models are 30 mm, Quad-type optical units associated with a CL-L030 sensor head, but the suffix cannot be ignored.

CL-L030G

KEYENCE identifies the CL-L030G as an export-control product. Published specifications include:

- reference distance: 30 mm (1.18 in);
- reference measurement range: ±3.7 mm (±0.15 in);
- published linearity in the reference range: ±0.81 µm;
- high-precision measurement range: ±1.0 mm (±0.04 in);
- published linearity in the high-precision range: ±0.59 µm;
- published resolution: 0.015 µm;
- spot diameter: ø500 µm;
- selectable sampling cycle: 100, 200, 500 or 1000 µs.



CL-L030N

KEYENCE identifies the CL-L030N as the corresponding non-export-control model designation. Published specifications include:

- reference distance: 30 mm (1.18 in);
- reference measurement range: ±3.7 mm (±0.15 in);
- published linearity in the reference range: ±0.94 µm;
- high-precision measurement range: ±1.0 mm (±0.04 in);
- published linearity in the high-precision range: ±0.72 µm;
- published resolution: 0.25 µm;
- spot diameter: ø500 µm;
- selectable sampling cycle: 100, 200, 500 or 1000 µs.

The published linearity and resolution figures above are not general guarantees for every target or installation. KEYENCE states that the linearity values were measured in displacement mode using its mirrored reference workpiece, and the resolution values were measured using 16,384 averaging cycles with that reference workpiece. Target material, surface condition, alignment, vibration, averaging and configuration can all affect real-world results.

Where the CL-C10 cable fits

The KEYENCE CL-C10 is a sensor-head extension cable with a published length of 10 m (32.8 ft) and an approximate weight of 850 g. It is an accessory in the CL-3000 component family, not a controller network cable or a general-purpose replacement cable.

Before using an extension cable, inspect the exact part number, connector condition, routing, bend protection and the total cable arrangement allowed by the current manual. Do not substitute a visually similar cable without confirming its electrical and optical-system compatibility.

Typical CL-3000 applications

The multi-colour confocal measurement principle is designed for non-contact displacement measurement. Depending on the selected head, target and system arrangement, CL-3000 applications may include:

- surface height and position measurement;
- thickness measurement using an appropriate multi-head arrangement;
- transparent, glossy or mirrored target measurement;
- nozzle-height feedback in dispensing equipment;
- inspection of films, glass, wafers and precision components;
- measurement where a compact, lightweight sensor head is useful near the target.

Application suitability still depends on the target, required uncertainty, mounting geometry, cycle time, environmental conditions and machine-safety design. A model being part of the same CL-3000 family does not by itself confirm suitability for a particular process.

Checklist before buying or installing this group

Confirm the following details before treating these parts as a complete working system:

- Exact suffixes: CL-3050, CL-L030G and CL-L030N are not interchangeable names for CL-3000, CL-L030 or one another.
- Matched pairs: Keep each CL-L030 head with the optical unit to which it was factory matched.
- Required quantity: Determine how many measurement points and optical-unit connections the application needs.
- Cable arrangement: Verify whether the CL-C10 length and connector arrangement match the installation.
- Power: Confirm a suitable 24 VDC supply and calculate current requirements for the number of connected units.
- Machine interface: Select EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PLC-Link, Ethernet command communication, USB, RS-232C or discrete I/O according to the controller limitations.
- Software and backups: Confirm CL-NavigatorG requirements for the CL-3050 and obtain a verified backup of the existing configuration before replacement.
- Mechanical setup: Check reference distance, measurement range, target alignment, mounting rigidity and environmental protection.
- Performance conditions: Compare the target and averaging conditions with the footnotes attached to KEYENCE’s published accuracy figures.
- Export review: The CL-3050 and CL-L030G are identified by KEYENCE as export-control products. Classification, destination, end user and end use must be reviewed before shipment or re-export. Product availability does not by itself establish permission to export.

Condition and Availability from Panda Industrial Supply

Panda Industrial Supply currently has the pictured CL-3050, CL-L030G, CL-L030N and CL-C10 components available as new surplus inventory, subject to prior sale and final confirmation.

The CL-3050 remains in its unopened original box. The outer boxes for the CL-L030G and CL-L030N have been opened for inspection, but the components remain inside their unopened protective antistatic packaging. Panda Industrial Supply has not opened the antistatic packaging or powered and functionally tested these units.

Buyers should request current photographs and confirm the included components, packaging condition and any inspection requirements before purchase. New surplus products may have storage, handling or previous ownership labels on the outer packaging.
